We're Saying Goodbye to Our Dinner Delivery Service

After much deliberation and introspect, the team at The Flying Pan has decided to shelve the dinner delivery service.

Whilst we have been fighting hard to maintain a viable service and to deliver great food, the current climate has interrupted our business to the point where ‘business as usual’ is not feasible.

However, we will be refocusing our business to strengthen our corporate and wedding catering, the latter of which has enjoyed steady growth over the past few years. We are also in the process of conceptualizing an alternative convenience food offering.

Also on the horizon is a brand new business and offering – we can’t reveal too much right now – but if you would like to be notified of its launch please email [email protected] with the subject header ‘Tell me more’!

Down to the nitty gritty, our last day of service will be Friday 30th October. For monthly customers, you will be able to order for this last month and still receive the 10% discount – our menus are online and you can place your orders for next week as usual.

With so many exciting new developments, we see this period as an opportunity to regroup, change and grow! We are also immensely proud of The Flying Pan’s growth since 2013 – thank you for giving us a seat at your table. Our growth up to this point would not have been possible without you.

Covid-19

Is The Flying Pan operating during lockdown?
Yes, The Flying Pan is trading during lockdown level 3. As per government regulations, prepared food deliveries during lockdown level 4 are permitted.

Can The Flying Pan operate on level 5 lockdown?

No. Under lockdown level 5, government regulations prohibit prepared meals from being delivered.

Note that in the event that the lockdown level is updated to level 5, deliveries will cease immediately and customers will be provided with store credit for outstanding meals.

The prohibition of prepared meals for delivery has been confirmed by both the CIPC and the Department of Tourism (see official notice here). We would like to state that any business delivering prepared meals during lockdown level 5, whether a dedicated meal delivery service or a restaurant/ deli, is doing so against government regulations.

To businesses like ours we have provided a link to the TERS (Temporary Employer Relief Scheme) offered by the UIF, which provides assistance with employee salaries over lockdown, as well as SAFT, a fund to extend financial support to SMME employees suffering loss of income due to COVID-19.

What measures are being taken to ensure the safety of staff and customers during Covid 19?
The Flying Pan is dedicated to ensuring the safety of staff and customers, and the following measures are in place:1. Reduced deliveries. We are no longer delivering meals every day. Instead of delivering Monday to Friday, we are now delivering three times a week. Monday and Tuesday meals will be delivered on Monday. Wednesday and Thursday meals will be delivered on Wednesday. Friday deliveries will commence on the 19th June.

1. Social distancing. In our kitchen, social distancing and the use of PPE is strictly enforced as per government regulations.

2. Strict hygiene during deliveries. Drivers will be equipped with face masks and hand sanitizer. The face mask will be worn when delivering meals and hand sanitizer will be used before and after each delivery is made. We are now utilising brown paper bags for the transport of meals to limit contact of the actual containers.

3. HACCP. Continuation of HACCP rules and practices for operating a hygienic kitchen.

Orders & Deliveries

How do I order?
You can use our website to order.  Select your meals by clicking the ‘add to cart’ button, proceed to checkout, and complete your order by making payment. If you prefer not to order using our website, please email [email protected] for assistance.

I would like to order continuously on a monthly basis. Do I still need to place my orders online?
Customers can order up to 4 weeks in advance and automatically receive a 10% discount on their order. Orders should still be made online here.

Where do you deliver?
We deliver to homes and offices within our designated service area in Cape Town. You can check whether you work or reside in our service area here. We’re always looking to expand our service area, so if you think that we should be delivering to your neighbourhood, pop us an email.

How much do you charge for delivery?
Delivery within our service area is included in the cost of each meal.

Do you deliver on weekends?
No. Our daily delivery service runs from Monday – Friday (excluding public holidays) only. However, our catering service is available 7 days a week.

Can you guarantee a specific delivery time?
Because of different driving routes and traffic conditions, we cannot guarantee an exact time of delivery. Deliveries are usually made between 9:30am and 4pm. If you would like an estimate for your area, please email [email protected]

I don’t live or work in your service area. Does this mean I can’t use your service?
We only deliver food within our designated service area. If you don’t live or work within our service area think about whether you have a neighbour or friend (who works in our service area and travels back to your neighbourhood) that we can deliver to.

What if I’m not at home when the food is delivered?
It is the responsibility of the customer to ensure that someone is at home or work to receive the delivery. If we cannot contact you and no alternative arrangements has been made, the food will be delivered the following day. In these instances no refunds will be given. We recommend that an alternative contact of a neighbour or colleague is provided.

What payment methods can I use?
You can pay online using Visa and Mastercard via SnapScan or PayFast (secure third party payment portals) or electronic fund transfer (EFT).

What is your cancellation and refund policy
Cancellations must be made by 10am the day before delivery. For banker transfer clients, a full cash refund or credit can be provided. For PayFast (Visa and Mastercard) payments, full credit can be provided or a cash refund minus the relevant PayFast/ SnapScan transaction fee can be provided.

Dietary & Religious Requirements

I’m allergic to nuts. Do you use nuts in your kitchen?
Yes, we use nuts in many of our dishes.

I’m gluten intolerant. Do you provide gluten free meals?
We do not have a dedicated gluten free menu. However if you are gluten intolerant we suggest that you contact us about our low carb menu as select dishes are gluten free.

Are you Halaal certified?
We are not Halaal certified. However, our chicken and beef is sourced from certified Halaal butcheries.

Is your low carb menu certified Banting?
No, our low carb menu is not certified Banting. Our low carb menu restricts carbohydrates and uses select Banting principles as a guideline. We do not add preservatives or sugar to our meals. We use fruit in some of our dishes (such as our Cape Malay chicken curry). We cook our meals with an extra virgin olive and seed oil blend. Please note that we offer low carb meals as a service and are not dietitians.

Product & Packaging

Is your packaging recyclable?
Our packaging is 100% recyclable and we encourage it to be reused in your own home or recycled.

Can I return my packaging?
Due to the risk of food contamination, packaging cannot be returned to us.

How do I reheat my food?
Food can be reheated in an oven or microwave. Our packaging is microwavable. If using an oven to reheat your food, please remove from packaging and place in an oven friendly dish.

What is the grammage of the meals?
Each portion of food weighs between 350g and 450g.

Gift Vouchers

Do you offer gift vouchers?
Yes, we can create personalised electronic vouchers, which can be used by the recipient to order our meals online. Email us at [email protected] with the amount you would like to gift.
